Arcona to build using wood at Trikåfabriken

Fabege has awarded Veidekke's subsidiary Arcona the contract to renovate Trikåfabriken in Hammarby Sjöstad. The project comprises approx. 25,000 square metres of renovation and new building and will be executed in close collaboration with the customer. The value of the contract is SEK 350 million.

The project started with a phase 1 agreement in November 2016. In phase 1 we have designed system documentation and helped the customer with cost assessments and planning of the project. We have also been entrusted with carrying out the renovation in a phase 2 agreement.

"As Hammarby Sjöstad is a city district where there is a great deal of activity, we have a major challenge with logistics. We're concentrating on analysing the project's various stages and finding solution so we can exploit the whole day optimally. We want a good flow to and from the site," says Peter Kihlman, project manager with Arcona.

"We have excellent experience from previous collaborations with Arcona, for example when we built Sweden's first wine hotel together, The Winery Hotel. Now we're both looking forward to further developing Trikåfabriken with an extension built from wood, which is a material that is gaining a constantly more prominent place in urban development due to its capacity for renewal and capacity to tie up carbon dioxide," says Klas Holmgren, manager of projects and processing at Fabege.

Trikåfabriken consists of four buildings of different ages, of which the oldest dates back to 1928. The existing buildings will be both renovated and extended. The new extension with a floor area of 5,200 square metres will have a solid frame made from cross-laminated timber and glulam beams, and the extensions' façades will be made from corten steel. The property will have open office premises and a spacious roof terrace with a grand view of Södermalm and Hammarby Sjöstad.

Arcona is design and build contractor and Tengbom architects have designed the project, which will be ready for occupation in April 2019. Fabege has entered into an agreement with Naturvårdsverket as tenant for a large part of Trikåfabriken.
