The new office building will have a total area of 6,100 m2 divided across two parts with four and eight storeys respectively. They will be connected by an intermediary building that will function as a bridge. The building will meet passive house standards and will be environmentally certified using the BREEAM-NOR standard. Its location at Fløyheia near the centre will mean that the building is clearly visible from many parts of Arendal and there will be excellent views of Arendal, Pollen and the sea from inside.
The 215 employees of the County Governor of Agder will take up 4,500 m2, when they move into what will be a modern building with a range of social zones and roof terraces at several different levels. High windows will allow daylight to reach a long way into the building on ever storey, and low plinth walls will ensure the view is maintained.
‘We are very proud to have won the competition to build this project that is getting under way in the new neighbourhood of Fløybyen, and we are so grateful for the commission. This is going to be a beautiful and important building for Arendal that will feature exciting architectural solutions. The fact that it will be an environmentally friendly building is something we particularly appreciate at Veidekke,’ says Atle Monan, District Manager at Veidekke Bygg Agder.
Construction works are scheduled to begin in late September and are due for completion in December 2020.
